The journey is done!

Well we have come to the end of the journey....although once you get started, I don't think that the journey ever really ends. I have learned alot of stuff during the course of our 23 things. I think I will continue to use some of the applications we toured through and others will go by the wayside. Some of the things I was already familiar with and others were a completely new experience.
I am not sure how many of the applications will be relevant to what I do at work.....but it is good to know that they are out there and that there are lots of other unexplored applications out there just waiting for my username and password!
It was fun!

Going for a Walk

Coming up with a map was a fun project and I can think of some really good applications for this especially on a personal level. I did have some trouble getting the community walk to do what I wanted it to do....I ended up doing some manipulation of the markers to get them to go in the order I wanted....otherwise it seemed that alphabetical was the default order. Check out "A few Beers on a Sunny Saturday".....makes me impatient for summer to come!

Gadgets

I have always been a sucker for gadgets! Get me into a kitchen gadget store and I will hang out forever....and then there is the Hammachler Schlemmer catalogues that amuse me for hours! What more do I need to say?

Using Diigo

I think I could find some use for Diigo to organzie my favourites.....I have quite a mess currently of links I want to keep and I think Diigo could help me to organize a bit better. I tried to search for a pretty general term "gardening" but I really didn't find anything there that useful.....I am not too sure yet about the sharing part....I realize Web 2.0 is all about sharing and user generated content and organization but the library in me still likes the confines of controlled language!!

tweet tweet

Well I signed up for a twitter account....not that I have any intention of actually tweeting but just to see what it is all about....and as I suspected, it is not anything I will ever use. I just don't care what some celebrity is doing every minute of his day....I did find a medical news update that is interesting but it is the same information I can find using RSS feeds. I have been a facebooker for several years now....always fun wasting a little time with that!
My vote?? Twitter gets 2 thumbs down and Facebook gets only 1 thumbs up!!

Flickr

I decided I really didn't want to create another account out there in cyberspace so I chose the "look at Flickr" only option. I suppose it could have some uses for when I need a photo of something. I could use the Creative Commons to find any type of picture one could imagine!
Here is a library pic by Enokson that I found kinda amusing!

Wiki

I did the Wiki thing as outlined in the program.....I would need to use it for a real project or team assignment to see how well it really worked....so far I am not committed to a good or bad status.

Podcasting...

Checked into podcasts and I couldn't find anything I really wanted to post on my blog....there's alot of junk out there! Well some good stuff also but I actually didn't feel like signing in for yet another application.

Ins and outs of Prezi

Well I have made a Prezi presentation! It's a fun and interesting little tool. It did take a bit to catch onto how it all functions but after watching the tutorial it all makes more sense! (Maybe next time I will try to do that first!). It probably has some functionality in the workplace.....not quite sure what yet but I will come up with something. I made a prezi about the last concert I was at.....it was a great show!

How Strange

I did the Google docs assignment and had quite an interesting time with it.....mainly because I was invited to join someone else's document and I just happened to be in it while they were and guess what??? all of a sudden someone is typing onto my screen in real time and I am reading it and watching them make spelling errors and backing up and rewriting! It seemed a little crazy especially since we could both add stuff in after each other....it was alittle like being in a chat session....but way more unorganized!

Smartphone pictures pose privacy risks

Eureka I think I got it!. Choose the Share option in utube and then the Blogger option and it will pop it right into your blog. I was already signed in so I didn't have to verify, but I didn't get any option to add text at that point. I needed to go back in and edit the post but it worked!

Let's see if this will work...

I am going to try to post a link to a utube video on my blog....it shouldn't be so hard right?
I have copied the embedded htlm code that utube provides for the video and I am going to link it up.
Smart Phone Pictures Pose Privacy Risk

Okay that does NOT work....let's see what else can I try?

All I can say...

Well all I can say about setting up the RSS feeds and Google reader is YAY for dual monitors!! It just makes it all a little less confusing when you can flip from screen to screen easily! You can also add the Google reader as a gadget on your iGoogle page....then all of the recent posts of folks you are following will come to one place!

I am following you....

I am now following you...I know that sounds alittle creepy but really I am just following your blog posts. Today I am doing a little experiment about what becoming a blog follower is all about. I am not sure, but I think that when you become a follower of someone's blog, you get updates on your dashboard about when this person has posted something new...so to my follower, did you get a notification of my new post??

And we're off..

We have begun our '23 things' experience. So far so good! I am still trying to find some practical workrelated applications for iGoogle but so far I have not been convinced that I would want it as my homepage. Hopefully as we progress, I will see the connections!
And as for blogging...well I have some experience with a family blog that works great for keeping in touch and for posting all those things 'not so suitable' for facebook!
